The Great Glen Ride

This is another Coast to Coast ride, following the Great Glen fault from Fort William in the West, to Inverness in the East. We mostly follow the route of the Great Glen Way long distance trail, with a few excursions for better riding!

We have two different options for this ride.

high above loch ness horse riding4 day ride - Northern side

(4 days riding, 3 nights accommodation, full board)

We leave Fort William in the shadow of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK, to ride through Leanachan forest beneath Aonach More to Gairlochy, where we leave the horses for the night. We spend the night in Spean Bridge. From Gairlochy, we follow the GGW beside Loch Lochy and Loch Oich on to Auchterawe, then travel on to Fort Augustus.

Still following the GGW, we head on, following trails high above Loch Ness, to Drumnadrochit, famous for Urquhart Castle not forgetting to keep our eyes open for the Loch Ness Monster! The last day sees us riding the rest of Loch Ness to Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, on the East coast.

(5 days riding, 4 nights accommodation, full board)

This ride leaves from Inverness and we ride along the Southern side of the glen, on the 'Seven Lochs trail, through the forests overlooking the great glen. We stop for the night at Dores at the head of Loch Ness. From Dores, we take the path through the forests again climbing the Fair Headed Lads pass, for stunning views over Loch Ness to the hills far to the North. We finish for the night at Whitebridge.

Leaving Whitebridge, we take minor roads and tracks to Fort Augustus, then ride on to Auchterawe where we spend the night. From here we follow the GGW trail past Loch Oich and Loch Lochy to Gairlochy, spending the night in Spean Bridge.

The final day - a ride through Leanachan forest, below the Aonoch More Ski Slopes, to Fort William, beneath Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK.
